The UK government has further delayed the introduction of border checks on food products coming into the country from the European Union by up to nine months following pressure from industry.

Paper checks that were due to be introduced on some goods starting Oct. 1 will be pushed back to January.

Full physical checks on agri-food and plant products will be delayed from Jan. 1, 2022 to July next year.

The administration led by Boris Johnson has faced a wave of criticism for its chaotic preparations and for the UK's lack of preparedness for the implementation of physical checks, which were originally scheduled to begin on Jan.
