The British Frozen Foods Federation (BFFF) has joined a chorus of industry voices calling on the government of Boris Johnson to further delay implementing border checks on food products entering the UK mainland following Brexit.
It comes less than three weeks before the UK government is scheduled to start implementing paperwork checks beginning Oct. 1 on food products arriving in the country -- with physical checks set to start on Jan. 1 2022.
When the UK exited the European Union at the start of this year, checks were initially pushed back three months and then a further six months because the government caved into pressure from industry groups concerned over the country's lack of preparedness surrounding everything from customs to a shortage of veterinarians.
