Danish processing giant FF Skagen plans to close its fishmeal plant in Hanstholm, resulting in the loss of 45 jobs, according to Nordjyske.

The site in northern Denmark, which celebrated 50 years of operations in 2019, has been part of the FF Skagen group since 2014.

But in recent years it has faced the threat of competition from other fishmeal plants in Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea region, leading it to cut its workforce.

The plant has also suffered declining fish quotas and availability following the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union, leaving executives with no other option but to shut it down.
