Land-based, recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) shrimp producer American Mariculture is investing $7 million (€5.9 million) to expand production at its growout site off the coast of Florida on Pine Island in the Gulf of Mexico.

The company, employing around 100 people, produces around 500,000 pounds of vannamei shrimp annually but expects this to rise to between 1.5 million to 2 million pounds of product next year.

"That should come online early next year," American Mariculture CEO Robin Pearl told IntraFish.
