France and US-based agricultural-biotechnology company Arbiom aims to produce 10,000 metric tons of alternative protein starting in 2023, CEO Marc Chevrel told IntraFish.

Arbiom uses microbial fermentation to transform carbohydrates from wood biomass and residues into a single-cell protein yeast that can be added to feed. The product can be used by a variety of fish species, but Arbiom mainly targets salmonids as it is widely farmed in Europe and North America.

The company’s technology focuses on protein, Chevrel said.
