Fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed labor shortages in the seafood industry on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean that were lurking in the background even before economies were shaken by the coronavirus pandemic.

While countries have their own individual set of problems some labor issues are commonplace across international time zones.

In the United Kingdom, where Brexit continues to cast a dark shadow over businesses, seafood suppliers processors and distributors are greatly concerned with the effects of the new so-called "pingdemic", which recently saw nearly 620,000 UK workers advised to isolate after they were contacted or "pinged" by a National Health Service Phone app.
