Darian McBain, known as Thai Union Group's "sustainability superwoman," is leaving the company after six years working as global director of corporate affairs and sustainability, according to a post on LinkedIn.
"Today is my last day working as Global Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Thai Union Group PCL," McBain announced.
Prior to joining Thai Union in 2015, McBain worked primarily in the non-governmental, inter-governmental sectors, including the United Nations. She is an environmental engineer by training, and her career has given her a deep understanding of global supply chains.
Her job at Thai Union wasn't easy -- right from the start. McBain joined in 2015, when a series of exposes brought attention to modern slavery and illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in Thailand in particular, with Thai Union implicated in some of the scandals.
Among many other things, over the course of her time at Thai Union McBain took a lead role in establishing SeaChange, a strategic approach to sustainability designed to transform the way the seafood industry operates worldwide.
McBain, was also a member of the 2020 IntraFish Power 100 ranking of seafood’s most influential executives.
"I joined just over six years ago, and what a ride it has been," McBain said in an update on LinkedIn.
"As one of the first seafood companies to hire a Chief Sustainability Officer, my role has taken me from European yellow cards to US TIP reports, from global campaigns by NGOs against to awesome collaborations with NGOs for, from fishery improvement projects to alternative proteins, it has been anything but dull," she said.
McBain said she will still be advising Thai Union over the next few months while the company finds her replacement.
"So long, and thanks for all the fish," she added.
