Investors are getting increasingly serious about investing in land-based farmed shrimp, putting the sector on the cusp of a boom the salmon farming sector has experienced in recent years, according to Roy Hoias, CEO and partner at Norwegian advisory firm Lighthouse Finance.

While shrimp is the one of the world's largest farmed species, pond production has accounted for an overwhelming amount of the volume, while recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) shrimp production has, to date, not attracted much investor capital.

That trend is starting to shift, Hoias told IntraFish.
