Brazilian seafood processors are experiencing a much better year than in 2020, despite the South American nation's continuing battle with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to ABIPESCA, a trade association representing the country's processors.

The onset of the pandemic last year put a chokehold on Brazil's processors, forcing many to suspend fresh seafood exports to US market.

Fast forward to July 2021 and the situation is looking brighter, said ABIPESCA President Eduardo Lobo, adding that Brazilian foodservice outlets are now allowed to operate at 45 percent of capacity, which is helping seafood sales.
