While creating offshore aquaculture in the United States would not be a silver bullet in the battle against climate change, it could provide significant mitigation in terms of reducing emissions a well as improving resource efficiency and providing adaptation opportunities.
On Monday, the American Fisheries Society (AFS) sent a letter to US President Joe Biden urging him to consider options such as offshore aquaculture in order to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The human population is predicted to approach 10 billion by 2050.
