“Is tuna sustainable?” – this is the $64 million question, and the answer will depend upon your definition of sustainability. But if we focus for the moment on environmental sustainability, we can get some interesting answers.

Firstly, the most recent “Status of the Stocks” report from the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) shows that of the 23 stocks fished commercially, 65 percent are at a healthy level of stock (or spawning biomass), 22 percent are at an intermediate level, and 13 percent are overfished.
