Salmon farmers continued to be punished by fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic in the first quarter of 2021, with foodservice demand still far away from normal levels.

A cursory glance at a brutal set of numbers for the opening three months of the year illustrates the crushing impact low prices had on earnings before interest and taxes per kilogram (EBIT/kg) achieved by salmon producing operations across the globe.

Only Mowi's Scottish operations escaped the bloodbath, registering a 132 percent in increase in EBIT/kg helped by lower costs and improved fish health.
