While aquaculture producers and investors around the world flock to land-based systems, for long-time Vietnam-based barramundi producer Australis Aquaculture this is not the solution to a sustainable and profitable business.

"I think the 100-percent land-based model remains very challenging and unproven," Jonathan Daen, the company's chief financial officer (CFO), told IntraFish. "We have a hybrid model in Vietnam where we use land-based recirculating infrastructure for our hatchery and nursery operations. Then once the juveniles are at the requisite size, we move them offshore into traditional Western-style netpens.
