Germany’s frozen whitefish industry has been in turmoil for years due to razor-thin margins and more recently Pickenpack’s bankruptcy -- but industry watchers see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Trident's move into the country and the now confirmed closure of the Pickenpack Luneburg facility could bring some relieve to processors.
With the uncertainty surrounding Pickenpack, "some players were not buying long term and the price of industrial blocks of Alaska pollock was very weak," Kristjan Hjaltason, VP sales and marketing at Ocean Trawlers Europe, told IntraFish.
