Spanish group Jealsa Rianxeira opened the first factory for canned tuna and sardines in the northeast of Brazil on Sept. 15.

With a capacity to produce 10 million cans of fish per month, the industrial plant is located in Sao Gonçalo do Amarante (EC), where the port of Pecem is located, one of the largest in Brazil.

Brazil’s minister of fisheries and aquaculture Eduardo Lopes, said the factory will allow fishermen to have more motivation to produce and invest in the sector.
