The surimi market in Europe is divided with western European consumption on the decline, and consumption in eastern Europe picking up due to quality improvements, Jean-Luc Beliveau, research and development (R&D) director at Alliance Ocean, said at this year’s Surimi Forum in Astoria, Oregon.
France’s consumption of surimi seafood continued to decrease in 2016, falling to 57,000 metric tons, although the country is still the main market for surimi seafood in western Europe, with a share of 41 percent of the market.
