Tomren Fish plans to build a 5,000 metric ton capacity land-based salmon farm, with a separate slaughterhouse, producing 20 metric tons of fresh salmon per day, reports Norwegian language newspaper Romsdals Budstikke.

To be built on a 60-acre plot on Trohaug, Tomrefjord, between Trondheim and Bergen, the cost of the plant is reported to be NOK 400 million ($47.9 million/€44.9 million) and it will provide 40 new jobs.

CEO of Tomren Fish, Olav Monstad, told the newspaper that the company will not use seawater in the plant, but will have water supplied by local waterworks Tomrefjord Vassverk.
