As the fishing season in Bristol Bay winds down, major processors have been paying fishermen base prices for sockeye sometimes well below last year's average of $1.35 (€1.18) per pound.
Prices that have been reported this year range anywhere from $0.50 (€0.44) to $1.20 (€1.05), several fishermen have confirmed with IntraFish.
These prices are not official as they are paid to fishermen who are going home early, David Harsila, vice president of the Bristol Bay Fishermen's Association, told IntraFish.
"During this time of year, the rumor mill is on fire," he said.
