The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Monday it's purchasing $470 million (€430.1 million) for nutrition assistance programs, a move that will be a boon for US seafood companies.

Catfish, Alaska pollock, and Atlantic pollock, haddock and redfish altogether are receiving $70 million (€64.2 million) as part of the total purchases.

The breakdown for each category is:

  • Catfish products: $30 million (€27.5 million)
  • Haddock, pollock, redfish (Atlantic): $20 million (€18.3 million)
  • Alaska pollock: $20 million (€18.3 million)

The food purchases will occur in the third quarter of this year, according to the USDA.
