The US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) is seeking new technology that can reduce or eliminate instances of off-flavor in farmed catfish raised in ponds.

The agency has created a competition called the "Protecting the Natural Flavor of Catfish Challenge," which will award a total of $60,000 (€50,357) for the most compelling approaches for preventing or eliminating the off-flavors, which it says cost US farmers millions of dollars each year. The USDA-ARS launched the challenge on Thursday on the crowdsourcing platform, HeroX.
