California-based American Tuna has been named one of Whole Foods' suppliers of the year, the retailer said Wednesday.

The award, which was also given to Oregon-based Willamette Valley Pie Company and Mexico-based Campos Borquez, is "the company’s most prestigious award given to suppliers who rise to the top in overall excellence."

American Tuna beat out suppliers in other categories that included exclusive brands, produce, seafood, meat, grocery, bakery, prepared foods and whole body, Nathan Cimbala, a spokesperson for Amazon-owned Whole Foods, confirmed with IntraFish.
