US seafood sales suffer as inflation rears its ugly head, with fresh category hit hardest

Rising prices are resulting in lower retail sales of fresh, frozen and shelf-stable seafood.

In maybe a more telling sign of the worsening effect of inflation, fresh seafood sales fell 32 percent from the first week in January, when sales were $176 million, to the final week of the month, when sales were down $57 million to $119 million.
