Inflation took a bite out of US retail seafood sales in January, with rising prices dragging down consumer purchasing across nearly all categories, including salmon and shrimp.

Fresh seafood prices per unit were up an average of 10.8 percent to $8.92 (€7.85) in January versus a year ago, with above-average price increases for fresh finfish at 17.2 percent, according to new data released by IRI and analyzed by Texas-based market research firm 210 Analytics.
