A national seafood marketing council is identified as a priority in a Senate report outlining 2023 federal government spending plans.

A report included in the US Senate's Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations bill directs NOAA to provide a report "detailing how the agency would facilitate a National Seafood Council through the Fisheries Promotion Fund ... to support a comprehensive, nationwide seafood marketing and public education campaign."

The US Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) said in the report it recognizes "the sustainability and important nutritional benefits of seafood consumption, and that promoting seafood on a national scale may lead to increased seafood consumption and a stronger seafood industry."
