The United Kingdom has finally set a date for the implementation of a long-awaited 35 percent tariff on imported Russian whitefish.

The sanction resulted from Russia's invasion of Ukraine and was first announced in March but then suspended in April so officials could analyze the potential effect of the new tariffs on the UK seafood firms.

The tariffs now take effect July 19, National Fish Fryers Federation (NFFF) President Andrew Crook, confirmed to IntraFish.

Crook attended a meeting between Victoria Prentis, minister of State for the UK government's Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), and the seafood sector on Thursday.
