The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded High Liner Foods and Trident Seafoods each a portion of a $5.7 million (€5.2 million) bid for Alaska pollock to be used in child nutrition and other related US domestic food assistance programs.

Trident won the majority of the contract with an award of around $4.7 million (€4.3 million) to supply nearly 1.2 million pounds of frozen Alaska pollock fillets, fish sticks and nuggets.

The USDA awarded Canada-based High Liner Foods' US division a little over $1 million (€906,363) to supply a total of 380,000 pounds of frozen Alaska pollock fish sticks.

Deliveries will start on April 1 and run through Sept. 30.
