The Nova Scotia government has created a new certification for seafood companies that it says will give them a competitive advantage in global markets.

The Nova Scotia Seafood Quality Program provides certification for the province’s top exported seafood products, including lobster, oysters, sea scallops, Atlantic halibut and several other species, according to the Nova Scotia's Fisheries and Aquaculture division.

Dan Davis, director of communications for Nova Scotia's Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, confirmed with IntraFish that Nova Scotia-based Fortune Oysters is the only company certified under the program so far.
