Japan's Maruha Nichiro, the world's largest seafood company by revenue, is investing in US-based frozen startup Happi Foodi, the company announced Wednesday.

Happi Foodi specializes in the development, commercialization and launch of a growing portfolio of owned and licensed brands.

Launched in 2009 with the brand Waffle Waffle, Happi Foodi sells products across a variety of categories, including a range of ready-to-eat meals and appetizers.

Although it did not reveal the scope of the investment, Maruha Nichiro Group praised Happi Foodi’s focus on "wholesome, safe and healthy food" in a statement.
