Japanese surimi giant Ichimasa Kamaboko laid out an ambitious five-year strategy for strengthening both domestic and overseas markets, supported by the construction of a new crab stick (kanikama) factory and a new focus on sustainability.

The company’s sales for the full fiscal year through June 2021 were down 3.8 percent from last year at JPY 35 billion (€270 million/$317 million).

While sales for their core products such as crab sticks grew, performance fell short of targets and last year’s numbers because of aggressive efforts to eliminate unprofitable items.
