Almost one-fifth of Europeans changed their consumption of fishery and aquaculture products as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a bi-annual report published by the European Commission that sheds light on consumer buying habits.

Market research was carried out by Kantar in the 27 EU member states between March 16 and April 12, 2021. Nearly 27,000 respondents from different social and demographic backgrounds were interviewed in their mother tongue for the study.

Respondents who decreased their consumption were most likely to name financial reasons as the main reason, researchers found.
