Chile-based cargo carrier LATAM said it will open the Santiago-Los Angeles cargo route to provide greater capacity for salmon exports and ensure coverage on the West Coast of the United States in the face of the global coronavirus health crisis.

Until recently salmon was largely flown in the bellies of passenger planes into Miami before being been transported by road to other destinations in the United States.

Salmon producers were forced to rethink export strategies, turning increasingly to cargo carriers big and small as demand for passenger flights plummeted in the wake of the coronavirus health crisis.
