Canadian government buys $12 million in surplus seafood from Clearwater, others to aid hard-hit families

Surpluses were created because COVID-19 shut down restaurant, leaving many producers without market for their seafood.

The food is purchased at cost of production, so that producers and processors will be compensated fairly for what would otherwise be lost, but will not make a profit.
