The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Thursday said it will purchase $70.9 million (€58.7 million) worth of seafood for distribution to a variety of domestic food assistance programs, including charitable institutions.

The purchases are being made utilizing funds under the authority of Section 32 of the Agricultural Adjustment Act.

The purchases continue the USDA streak of helping food producers weather the ongoing food chain supply disruptions caused by COVID-19.

“The impacts of COVID-19 reverberated from our farms to our oceans,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
