Chilean premium smoked salmon brand Verlasso, owned by parent company AquaChile, is aiming to expand into the Chinese market, helped by rising income levels and a growing acceptance of salmon products.

Until now the Verlasso's main focus has been on the US market, but executives are stepping up efforts to conquer other markets, not least China.

The first consigment of Verlasso salmon arrived in China a month ago after the Beijing government began easing coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
