The Maine lobster industry took a one-two punch last week, with a red-listing from an influential sustainability guide and a ruling from a US federal judge denying a delay on new restrictions that will further impact the industry.

Seafood Watch, a sustainability guide for consumers and businesses issued by Monterey Bay Aquarium, last week red-listed American-caught Atlantic lobster, citing a Sept. 8 announcement from federal regulators at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) saying "additional risk reduction is needed" in all East Coast gillnet and trap or pot fisheries to reduce marine mammal casualties.
