Optimism is returning to the French seafood market as lockdown measures ease and restaurants gradually return to indoor dining.

Despite the potential threat from new virus variants, measures aimed at combatting the spread of the coronavirus are being lifted as France speeds up vaccination rates and ends the last of its curfew restrictions.

A ban on indoor dining was lifted on June 9, although remains subject to capacity restrictions. Outdoor dining has been allowed since mid-May in France.

Seafood prices rising

But just as the restaurant sector begins to get back on its feet an increase in foodservice demand and the effects of the free trade deal struck between the EU and the United Kingdom, are pushing seafood prices higher for both wholesalers and consumers.
