Growth in markets such as Thailand couldn’t come at a better time for the majority of Vietnam’s pangasius producers, for whom the imposition of large antidumping tariffs has all but rendered its largest market, the United States, non-existent.

For Godaco and Hung Ca, two of a small pavillion of Vietnamese pangasius producers at this year’s Bangkok-based Thaifex food show, developing markets such as Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore offer an opportunity to spread their risk across, having been burned by their reliance on huge markets with the power to pull the rug from under them in the blink of an eye.
