Hixton, Wisconsin-based land-based aquaponics firm Superior Fresh launched its first Atlantic salmon at fresh seafood shelves of retailer Festival Foods on July 4.

Brandon Gottsacker, president of Superior Fresh, said in a post on LinkendIn the company is "excited to offer such a fresh product" to consumers in the Midwest.

He said the salmon contains some of the highest omega-3 levels compared to wild-caught salmon, has a "very mild but buttery flavor" with firm and thick fillets.

Superior Fresh's facility combines a 40,000 square foot recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) salmon farm with a 123,000 square foot aquaponics operation that produces leafy greens.
