The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) is recommending the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) establish a stronger process for sampling imported seafood shipments that have been put on an "import alert."
Under FDA rules, if the agency suspects that products may violate US laws, it can detain the products at ports until the violation has been resolved — a process called an import alert.
