Trident Seafoods is in the process of building a new Alaska pollock processing plant in Tome, Japan, with lines for breaded and single-frozen fillets, part of the company's drive to build up new demand in the country's flat-lining seafood market.
The new facility, to be operated in partnership with Osabe Foods, will produce 5,000 metric tons of product, and be operational sometime in the first quarter of 2019.
Koichi Suzuki, managing director of Trident Seafoods Asia, told IntraFish Trident Seafoods Japan is launching a new range of single-frozen Alaska pollock fillets similar to those the company put onto Walmart retail shelves.
