When Bryan Boches helped form Safe Catch more than a decade ago the big seafood companies were not biting.

"We didn’t get any takers," Boches told IntraFish.

Over the years Safe Catch, whose mission is to offer the lowest mercury limit of any tuna brand, spent millions of dollars developing technology to screen every fish it catches and processes for its mercury concentration, but it was hitting a wall focusing on only one aspect of production, he said.

"We had to pivot and become a brand rather than live on as a tech company," he said.
