The typical US supermarket sold $41 (€37) worth of oysters a week, during the 52-week period ending May 28, 2016, according the latest Nielsen Perishables Grouppoint-of-sale data supplied by the market monitoring group to IntraFish.

And that's 5 percent below weekly sales levels for the same period the year prior.

Oysters sales were strongest in the southern region of the country, where the average weekly sales over the 52-week period was $50 (€45.40). And that's off from the $55 (€50) in average weekly sales for the year prior.
