Tuna -- which in its various forms is the third-most consumed fish in the United Kingdom -- continued to lose ground at UK retail, according to market research firm Nielsen.

In the 52 weeks through Aug. 13, overall sales of tuna dropped 2.8 percent in volume from 54,670 metric tons to 53,117 metric tons at the country's supermarkets.

Value of sales declined 7.1 percent in the same period, dropping from £338.4 million (€400.9 million/$450.8 million) to £314.3 million (€372.3 million/$418.7 million) year-on-year.
