Five years after opening its Spanish office, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is finally seeing the kind of progress it was hoping for.

But challenges remain, especially in the fragmented fresh segment, Laura Rodriguez Zugasti, program director Spain for the MSC, told IntraFish during the Conxemar show in Vigo last week.

Currently, around 400 products sold at Spanish retailers bear the blue eco-label, and support is rising, driven by discounters Lidl (which sells the most MSC products in the country) and Aldi, as well as retailers such as El Corte Ingles, Alcampo and Metro Group-owned Makro.
