"Something exciting is about to happen" in the US salmon market, Ole-Eirik Leroy, chairman at Norwegian giant Marine Harvest, told the audience at the IntraFish Seafood Investor Forum in London last month.

Leroy described the country as the "largest salmon market in the world but also one of the markets with the lowest per capita consumption and one of the least developed markets."

In 2015, overall US salmon consumption amounted to 374,040 gutted weight equivalent (GWE) metric tons.
