"A revolution" is how Wakao Hanaoka describes sustainability developments in the Japanese seafood industry.

Traditionally a market driven by the need to "get as much fish as possible" -- a strategy driven by post-war regulatory reform -- Japanese businesses are now, decades later, seeing the need to change their legacy and to focus on a more sustainable future for the sector.

External factors are forcing the shift, according to Hanaoka, ex-Greenpeace senior oceans campaigner and founder and CEO of consulting firm Seafood Legacy.
