Gorton's took home top honors in an informal taste test conducted by the Detroit Free Press that included Kroger, Van de Kamp's, Member's Mark, Fremont Fish Market and Young's.

The Massachusetts-based company's Beer Battered Fillets made form Alaska pollock received the highest score at 4.6 on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best in taste, texture and fish quality. Crispiness of the coating or batter was also considered.

The news site also praised Gorton’s Beer Battered Bite, though it didn't rank them.
