French supermarket chain Auchan has launched a line of "insect fed” trout in 52 stores in the North of France region.
The retailer plans to extend supermarkets across France by the end of 2019.
Auchan said the launch of is aligned with a overall strategy of promoting the development of a sustainable French aquaculture.
Insect producer InnovaFeed, fish feed manufacturer Skretting and fish farmer Truite Service and Auchan France worked in cooperation on the pioneering initiative.
The launch comes amid increased investor interest in backing insect meal and other alternative proteins for aquaculture feed.
