French supermarket chain Casino has launched a new line of reduced-salt shrimp.

The "Rose" line has 25 percent less salt and is the fruit of two years of research and development work by Casino.

The retailer said it took six months to identify a supplier in Lorient, France. The supplier has 27 years of experience in the industry working with South American and producers in other regions.

Frozen shrimp for the lines is produced without using brine.

Casino has been working on reducing salt in its product lines since 2003.

The retailer counts Monoprix, Franprix, Géant hypermarkets and Brazilian retail giant GPA among its roster of subsidiaries.
