Protests and resulting road blockades taking place in France this past week over fuel taxes significantly impacted the country’s seafood sector which relies heavily on transport to get its goods around the country.

Specifically Boulogne-sur-Mer, the country’s main seafood distribution hub -- and one of the largest seafood hubs in Northern Europe -- was hit hard at the start of the week.

French distributor Novo Foods -- a subsidiary of Iceland's Novo and an affiliate of Icelandic salmon farmer Arctic Fish -- has its base at Boulogne-sur-Mer and its general manager Gudmundur Stefansson, told IntraFish it had been a “complicated week” with “a lot of people have losing a lot of money.”
