With 600,000 metric tons, 40 vessels, nine shore plants, 250,000 metric tons of value-added products, Trident Seafoods has a lot of sway on the production side. Particularly on Alaska pollock.

But Torunn Knoph Halhjem, senior director of global species at the whitefish giant, said a major change is underway in the pollock market itself, and it’s not driven by supply.

“When we project the market, we tend to look too often at just the quota,” she said, speaking at the North Atlantic Seafood Forum earlier this month.
